An introductory post.

Long ago I registered chaide.com with the intention of doing something with it.. some day. Today is that day! Except I let the domain expire years ago and now an Ecuadorian mattress company owns it.

as if I actually planned this

So I've whisked myself away into Google's tightly integrated platform of choice for blogging. Today, I learned that Blogspot is now called Blogger.   neat.   I also happened to learn how easy it is to sucker me into spending 12 dollars on another .com. To that end, I bring you Semi-Casual! Has a nice ring to it, yeah?

I'm happy with this for a multitude of reasons that I'll eventually use to justify this inevitable regret. It's just where I happen to be right now.

My entire online existence is fragmented, somewhat deliberately, across the internet. I suppose my most recent interests are what this blog will focus on despite those interests having stayed relatively consistent for years, so.. I'm just winging it. The inspiration for this online space is my preferred focus. I like to talk about things. I occasionally like to write about things. And when appropriate, I like to share things. A lot of the things I've done on the internet are a culmination of those, erm.. passions? And this is a means to rope some of them together, or at least my thoughts regarding them.

This blog should be a good place for me to share, in one way or another. Because when I don't stream, or make a YouTube video, or throw something out there I guess, I feel like I'm letting my.. I don't even know what to call you all. Loosely connected network of people with a passing interest, yeah, that rolls off the tongue. When my consistency is lacking, I feel that I should at least provide some sort of entertainment. And if reading is as entertaining for you as writing is for me, then you and this blog will get along indifferently.

Twitter is fun because people actually follow me on it. This is in spite of my antipathy for following others. I've built up a quaint little following over there through my mildly-successful Twitch stream, so my assumption is that a fair portion of my followers are interested in a fraction of what I have to say. Every Tweet is bite-sized by design, so it's easy to digest. The overall issue I have with the platform is that robust statements, regardless of their importance, are condensed and eventually distilled into a generic talking point. I could get into the dynamics of Threads and whatnot, but I tend to steer clear of anything longer than 2 or 3 posts. My experience with Twitter is it being a great way to check in and stay updated on things. ..even if I'm checking over 30 times a day.

I bring this up because, at least in my Twitch circle, there's a trend of updating blog-style posts to Pastebin, which is essentially a bare-bones online Notepad. And you know what, I like that well enough. You wanna know what I like more, though? Italics.

Holy god damn, you can emphasize so much with a little text formatting. Blogger is the answer for my desire to accentuate anything of even minor relevance on the internet. Now don't get me wrong, it's pretty cool seeing my timeline refresh with a "Pastebin Monday" that gives me something to read for a few minutes. I've even made a few of my own. But again, it's all a bit too fragmented for my tastes to have some of my more meaningful thoughts so haphazardly arranged.

Basically, when I'm feeling like spouting my irrelevance into the void, I'll take to Twitter in a heartbeat. If I'm feeling a bit more inspired, I'll work on making these posts something you can look forward to. We'll see.

I welcome you once again to Semi-Casual. My own personal branding. At the very least, I won't have to worry about people not remembering how to spell or pronounce Chaide.

So, here I am. There you are. And off you go.
